Oleg Kyselov

    Kyselov Oleg, Ph.D. in Religious Studies. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine. He received his B.A. in Philosophy and M.A. in Religious Studies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1998–2003. He was a postgraduate student at the Department of Religious Studies at the same university in 2003–2006. He received his Ph.D. for the thesis Phenomenon of Ecumenism in Modern Christianity: Philosophical and Religious Studies Analyses in 2007. He has been working at the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy since 2006. He has a position as a senior research scientist now. He began to write his second thesis on Ukrainian scientific atheism at the Department of Culturology (now – Theology and Religious Studies) at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University (Kyiv, Ukraine). He came to the Department of Religious Studies of The University of Alabama as a visiting Fulbright Visiting Scholar in October 2021. He was then hired full-time as an Instructor for the 2022-23 academic year.

    He has been one of the founders of the NGO Youth Association for the Study of Religions (now – NGO Workshop for the Academic Study of Religions). He was a member of an Audit Committee (2004–2006) and Executive Committee (2006–2011), Vice-President (2011–2013), and President (2013–2015).

    Oleg Kyselov is a co-editor of three collections of papers in Ukrainian and Russian: Judaism: Essence, History and Modern Dimensions (2008), Phenomenology of Religion: Between Sacred and Profane (2011), and New Religions: Theoretical and Applied Questions (2018). He is also the editor-in-chief of the journal Relihieznavchy Narysy (Essays on Religious Studies), a member of the editorial board of a series of collections of papers De Religione. He used to be a member of the editorial board of the journal Praktychna Filosofiya (Practical Philosophy).

    Research interests: history of religious studies, theoretical and methodological problems in religious studies, Soviet scientific atheism, interconfessional relations, and sociology of religion.
