Olena Gruba is a PhD student in the History of Philosophy at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, where she also completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Her thesis examines German philosophy of technology in the twentieth century. She is concurrently pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in religious studies at the Aquinas Institute of Religious Sciences (Kyiv), focusing on the phenomenology of religious experience in the works of Edith Stein. In 2023–2025, she was a visiting researcher with the PhilETAS research group at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), where she worked on environmental and energy ethics and assisted in teaching energy ethics seminars for engineering students. Since 2025, she has been based in Lviv, completing her PhD thesis and working in the institution “Network of Cultures and Technologies”.
Member of WASR since September 2020. Elected Head of WASR in May 2026.
Research interests: twentieth-century German and Austrian philosophy, philosophical anthropology, environmental ethics, posthumanism, Catholic and Protestant theology of the twentieth century. Alongside academic scholarship, she engages with popular humanities through in-depth interviews and travel essays, and publishes in the philosophy journal Kontur.
