Volodymyr Volkovskyi

    Volodymyr Volkovskyi, PhD in Philosophy. Born in Kyiv (Ukraine). Between 2005 and 2010, he earned his master’s degree in philosophy from the Institute of Philosophical Education and Science at the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University. Between 2010 and 2013, he was a postgraduate student at the Department of History of Philosophy of Ukraine at the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy. In 2015, he defended his PhD thesis “The Formation of the Idea of Society in the Political-Philosophical Thought of Ukraine in the 19th Century”. Since 2013, he has been working at the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, currently as a researcher. In 2020-2021, he led a research group working on a research project under the grant for young scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the topic ‘The Doctrine of the Russian World as a Cultural and Information Strategy’. Since 2022, he has been an associate fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In 2023-2025, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions for Ukraine grantee under the title ‘Exceptionalism in Ukrainian Politico-Philosophical Thought of the 19th Century’.

    He became a member of the MAR (Workshop for the Academic Study of Religions) in 2007, when he was a student. He has participated in various MAR Summer Schools of Religious Studies, as well as summer schools of the Department of Philosophy at the Ukrainian Catholic University.

    He is a lecturer in sociology and philosophy of religion at the Kyiv Three Holy Hierarchs Major Seminary and the St. Thomas Aquinas Institute of Religious Sciences.

    Fields of research: political philosophy (in particular, Nationalism & Postcolonial Studies), philosophy of religion, history of Ukrainian philosophy (19th–20th centuries), Ukrainian politico-philosophical thought in the diaspora, the doctrine of the ‘Russian world’, civil religion.
